Bears Hand Out Regular Season Awards

Friday night marked the final regular season game for the Bears. Each season the fans vote for the Bears team awards. Prior to the start of the game versus the Pembroke Lumber Kings the Bears handed out the following awards:

Smolkins Mens Wear 3 Stars Award – Given to the player who collects the most points as awarded for being selected a game star. This year’s winner is Alex DiCarlo. Alex is in his 2nd year with the Bears and is currently leading the team in goals (21) and points (50). The Niagara Falls native is the 2017-2018 Smolkins Mens Wear 3 Star Award winner.

The Bears Best Defenseman Award – Was donated in the memory of Gerry Lowe who was a long time supporter of the Bears as well as a proud grandfather of former Bears captain Chris Lowe. This years winner is Matthieu Franche.  Matty,  as he is known to his teammates is in his 2nd year with the Bears and 3rd year in the CCHL. He is a shut down defenseman who logs plenty of ice versus the oppositions better players. The Merrimack College commit is from Navan Ontario.

The Joel Cyr Memorial Trophy – Awarded to the Bears Top Forward. Joel was a very fine young man and excellent hockey player from Smiths Falls who was taken from us at too early an age. The Cyr family donated the award in his honor. This year’s recipient is Michael Larose. Michael is in his 2nd year with the Bears and sits 2nd on the team in goals (19) & points (48). The Trois Rivieres Quebec native plays on the power play , 5 on 5 as well as kills penalties occassionally. The Bears fans voted Michael as the Bears Top Forward.

Bears Fan Favourite Award – Sponsored by Robbie Hull, the Bears fans, the best in the CCHL vote all season on their favourite Bear. Robbie is an avid fan who is a mainstay at Bears games as well as Bears community events. This years winner is Matthieu Franche. The 18 year old’s hustle and hard work game in and game out draws the admiration of the Bears faithful.

Lake 88.1 FM MVP Award. – Awarded to the Bears Most Valuable Player for the regular season. This years recipient is goaltender Bradley Dobson. The pride of Moose Factory Ontario and grandson of Montague Reeve Bill Dobson, had a very good season for the Bears. He presently has a 17-17-1-1 record with a 2.75 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. The 19 year old is tied for second in the league with 5 shutouts.
