Bears Upend Lumber Kings 6-5 in a Shootout

The Bears were wounded and down in their game in Pembroke Sunday night, but they never quit and their determination was rewarded as they earned two valuable points in their push for a playoff spot.

The Bears started out strong as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Alex DiCarlo opened the scoring with his team leading 19th goal of the year while the Bears were on the power play. Linemates Michael Larose & Mitchell Larabie were given assists on the icebreaker.  Ryan Gibson banged in a rebound for his 6th goal with Kyle Dowdall & Marc Shannon getting the helpers. The Bears out shot the Lumber Kings 15-10 in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Penalty problems in the 2nd period turned the momentum of the game in Pembroke’s favour as they scored a 5 on 3 & a 5 on 4 power play goals to tie the game and scored two more at even strength to take a 4-2 advantage before Brian Bygrave scored his 11th goal of the campaign as he was set up by Blake Kettyle & Kris Lalonde. Pembroke enjoyed a 15 -10 shot advantage in the middle stanza.

Larose tied the game at 7:48 of the 3rd period as he was set up by Larabie. Pembroke retook the lead just 21 seconds later with their 3rd power play of the game. Kris Lalonde tied the game at 5-5 at 15;19 with his 4th goal of the season. Bygrave & Scott Gervais assisted on the goal. The Bears out shot the Lumber Kings 11-10.

Each team recorded a single shot in an up & down 3 on 3 overtime session.

Alex DiCarlo opened the shootout with a goal to the blocker side while Brad Dobson stopped Malcolm Arseneau. Larabie went blocker side as well for the Bears 2nd goal of the shootout before Dobson sealed the win with a save on the Lumber Kings leading scorer Matthew Barnaby.

DiCarlo was chosen the 2nd star and Bygrave the 3rd star of the game.
