Braves 3 Bears 0 Sunday in Brockville

The Bears have had a tough time with the Brockville Braves this season. The Bears were 1-4 against their long time rivals heading into Sunday’s tilt at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

The Bears arrived with a depleted lineup as Will Searle & Brett Humberstone were injured and Kyle Dowdall was sitting out a suspension. The Bears added Tate Leeson (Athens CCHL2), Blake Kettyle (Westport CCHL2), Nolan Seed (Bears Midget AAA) & Smiths Falls native Nathaniel Watson (Westport CCHL2) who was making his CCHL debut.

The teams played an evenly matched first period with Brockville outshooting Smiths Falls 14-11 but goalies Brad Dobson & Nick Wiencek were equal to the task.

The Bears had a strong second period as they outshot Brockville 16-9 but Brockville scored the only goal of the period as Eric Holland scored at 16:34.

The Bears gave up a 2-0 lead at 9:17 of the third period as Jordi Jefferson scored. The Bears kept up the pressure but the game was put out of reach when Eric Faith scored into an empty net at 18:31 while the Bears owned a man advantage. The shots were 11-8 in favour of Brockville for a game total of 35-34 for the Bears.

Hunter Garlasco was chosen 3rd star of the game.
