The Junior A Bears hosted the Pembroke Lumber Kings on Friday, March 2 for their last home game during the regular season.

The well attended game with a crowd of 490 had some unusual visitors this time around, with the CBC handing out free snow cones and raffling off prices.

The first period saw no scoring. Jacob Kamps from the Lumber Kings opened scoring in the second period when he broke through the Bears lines for an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 8.36 mark. But Bear Michael Larose managed to even the score half a minute later with a goal at the 9.00 mark, with assists credited to Brett Lumberstone and Mitchell Larabie.

Larose scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Alex DiCarlo and Larabie, early in the third period at 1.50 to bring the Bears to a lead. Unfortunately a late game penalty got thanked for by the Lumber Kings with a powerplay goal by Jarrad Vroman with just 18 seconds to go.

The first overtime period saw no scoring.

Jacob Kamps from the Lumber Kings, and Bears DiCarlo and Larabie missed their chances at scoring in the shoot out, but Matthew Barnaby (PLK) and Malcolm Arseneau (PLK) didn’t, giving the 3-2 win to the Lumber Kings.

First star of the game went to Kamps (PLK), second star went to Larose, and third star went to Malcolm Arseneau (PLK).

This was an all or nothing game for the Bears as they didn’t a win to secure a playoff spot. They did give it their all but came up short. The Junior A Bears will not be moving into the playoffs this year.
