Raiders Three Goal Third Period Sinks the Bears 4-2

The Smiths Falls Bears had a lead in the 3rd period at home Tuesday night but could not hold on as Nepean scored three unanswered goals to win 4-2.

The 1st period was evenly played as the 9th & 10th place teams in the CCHL vied for crucial points as they push for the final playoff spot as the season winds down. The shots were 9-9.

Bears defenseman Scott Gervais opened the scoring with his 2nd goal of the year as he beat Kyle Alaverdy to the blocker side just 2 seconds after a Bears power play had expired. Kris Lalonde & Hayden Hart were given the assists on the Gervais goal. Nepean responded with a power play goal at 16:33 and the 2nd period concluded with a 1-1 tie. The Bears enjoyed a 17-13 advantage in shots.

At 9:02 of the 3rd period the Bears Alex DiCarlo sniped his 15th of the season on a one-timer while on the power play to give the Bears the lead. Michael Larose & Ethan Coltart set up the go ahead goal.  Nepean scored at 12:45 to even the game at 2-2 and jumped ahead at 18:02 as they pounced on a Bear’s turnover and scored. They added an empty net marker at 19:29 for the final 4-2 score. Nepean outshot the Bears 14-12 in the final regular season game between the two teams. Nepean won the regular season series 3 games to 2.

The game marked the CCHL debut of Nolan Seed who plays with the Bears Midget AAA team. The 15 year old Newboro Ontario native played a strong game and is highly regarded for the upcoming OHL draft.

Alex DiCarlo was named the 2nd star of the game played before 180 in attendance.
