Tough 2nd Period Leads to 8-1 Loss to the Braves

A 6 goal 2nd period sparked to Brockville Braves to an 8-1 win over the Smiths Falls Bears on Tuesday night at the Bears Den.

After 20 minutes of play the Braves were up 1-0 thanks to a short handed goal scored at the 7:21 mark. The period was evenly played as was evident by the 7-7 shot totals.

The train came off the rails for the Bears in the 2nd period as they gave up 6 unanswered goals, the last 3 on the power play to blow the game wide open. Starter Kyle Renaud was pulled at the 9:53 mark of the 2nd period after the Braves went up 4-0. Brad Dobson finished the period in the Bears net.

Renaud returned to the Bears net for the 3rd period. Newcomer Adam Church acquired from Brockville ironically enough spoiled the shutout bid of Justin Evenson at 4:17 of the 3rd period when his nifty deflection beat the Brockville goalie on the blocker side for his 3rd goal of the season. Ethan Coltart & Alex DiCarlo were credited with assists on the Bears lone goal.

Marc Shaanon was voted the 3rd star of the game.
