Camp Philosophy: “The Creative Edge”
This camp is designed to reignite a player’s passion for the game right when the mid-season”grind” usually sets in. By condensing high-level training into a sharp, one-hour daily session, we eliminate the burnout and focus entirely on Technical Mastery and Hockey IQ.
Bears March Break “CREATIVE Edge” Skills Development is led by Josh Filoso Assistant GM, Assistant Coach Junior A Smiths Falls Bears, who will be joined daily by a variety of players of the 2025/26 Junior A Bears Team.
The Curriculum
Our curriculum bridges the gap between raw skill and game-day execution. We move beyond basic drills to focus on the “pro-style” habits that define elite players:
● Technical Mastery: We break down the mechanics of power skating (edge control and transition speed), puck protection, and deceptive shooting. Players won’t just learn to shoot they’ll learn to change the angle and release under pressure.
● Situational IQ: Through Small Area Games (SAGs), players are forced into high-traffic scenarios that require quick thinking and creative problem-solving. This environment develops a “hockey sense” in a way that traditional full-ice drills cannot.
● Creative Freedom: The atmosphere is built to encourage calculated risk-taking. We want players to experiment with new moves and creative passing lanes, injecting fun back into their development.

Each session follows a 10-40-10 structure:
● 10 Mins: Edge Work & Warm-up (Full Ice)
● 40 Mins: Station-Based Skill Work (Split by age/ability)
● 10 Mins: High-Speed Competition/Game
Day 1 Monday March 16: Technical Skating & Edge Control
Day 2 Tuesday March 17: Puck Handling & Passing Mastery
Day 3 Wednesday March 16: Deceptive Shooting and Scoring
Day 4 Thursday March 19: Situational Hockey IQ & Small Area Games
Day 5 Friday March 20: The Finale (Putting it all together)
