Smiths Falls Bears pick up five of eight points during busy CCHL week

The Smiths Falls Bears gained five points in four games in CCHL action over the past week.

The Bears (19-26-3-2) posted wins over Navan and Kanata, lost in overtime to Cornwall, and suffered a defeat against Nepean, and are just five points away from a potential playoff spot. They sit in the fifth spot of the Robinson division with 43 points, five behind Pembroke at 48, and six behind the Rockland Nationals who sit with 49 points, and fourth place in the Yzerman division.

The Bears were on the road Sunday where they posted a 3-2 win over Navan.

Smiths Falls opened the scoring at 4:10 of the first period, assisted by Bruce Coltart and Nolan Seed.

Navan equalized the rally at 10:27 of the second period when he was able to get past Bradley Dobson, who earned the win with 13 saves.

Smiths Falls went ahead before the period ended with Adam Church’s goal, assisted by Coltart and Ryan Richardson.

In the final frame, the Bears scored at 1:29 with Mitchell Larabie getting help from Coltart and Alex DiCarlo on the power play with what turned out to be the game winner.

Navan responded at 10:10 with Coleton Cianci’s marker as the Bears went on to win this one, 3-2.

Game stars were Bruce Coltart (first) for Smiths Falls, Nicolas Chartrand (second) for Navan and Mitchell Larabie (third) for Smiths Falls.
