On Friday, Jan. 26 the Smiths Fall Bears were finally able to secure a win on home ice, a feat that has eluded them for far too long. Friday night’s game at the Bears Den against the Kanata Lasers saw the Bears win 4-3.

The Bears got off to a rough start with the Lasers’ Dan Mcintyre, Connor Sleeth and Ryan Bunka sending three pucks past Smiths Falls goalie Kyle Renaud. However, keeping Renaud in the net payed off big dividends in the end.

Bears player Bruce Coltart’s kick-started the home team’s comeback at the 5.23 mark in the second period. It was assist by Adam Church. Marc Shannon narrowed the gap with an unassisted goal at the 9.33 mark, and Mitchell Larabie evened the score with a goal at 16.33, assisted by Brett Humberstone and Kyle Dowdall.

The only goal in the third period by Coltart at 12.18, his second of the game, assisted by Ethan Coltart and Alex DiCarlo. This secured the Bears’ lead with a final score of  4-3.

Even though Kanata is credited with 36 shots total versus the Bears 27, the Bears were able to secure a win.

First star of the game went to Bruce Coltart (SFB), second star to Ryan Bunka (KAN), and third star to Marc Shannon (SFB).
